Help Your Neighbors Access Online Alzheimer's Prevention Resources

Simply stated, the people at most risk of developing Alzhiemer's disease - are often unfamiliar and uncomfortable using computers - much less surfing around the Internet and "interacting" with all that is offered there.
This might be true in your family too.
From the early stages of development - the Alzheimer's LifePlan's user interface and online enterprise platforms needed to be easy to access and navigate once someone landed on www.alzheimerslifeplan.com.
To reach as many offline (non-online computer users) as possible - the 24/7 Workshop One and all upper level online programs were designed so they could be printouts, or so they could be opened for a non-computer person and then "read" by that person. If there was someone assisting the non-computer person to teach them simple navigation practices, scrolling for page controls, or even how to depress the spacebar and take a memory fitness test - people could be reached who would otherwise not know about the programs.
Affiliates have to register their workshop facilities with the Alzheimer's LifePlan. If you review the "Workshop Resources" area of the project - you will see that the forms offered all online workshop takers - are available there for downlod and printing out. So you can invite people into your workshop, give them a personal form, and assist them in the online navigation or memory fitness testing.
The ideal affiliate will have an interest in ending Alzheimer's or preventing it in their personal lives - also the ability to assist others in learning how to access the information offered here and the memory fitness testing platform.

By affiliating into the Alzheimer’s LifePlan Workshop Network, any of these facilities can instantly offer direct connections to all leading Alzheimer's research centers as well as the free infomation and memory fitness testing services offered here. The formation of this network allows citizens, community centers, businesses to function as a meeting place. Afterall, the people who are at the greatest risk of developing Alzheimer's are often those who like computers the least.
The workshop affiliate must have a meeting room and access to an online computer to provide workshop meetings to their community. Everything needed to inform, establish memory fitness testing accounts and enrollment into the Alzheimer’s LifePlan public service project is supplied.
Each person attending a workshop leaves with a personal Alzheimer’s LifePlan worksheet, where they can keep track of their diet, nutritional supplements, mental and physical exercise activities. They can also use the worksheet to record the results of their free memory fitness test – which they should be able to take at their workshop meetings.
The Workshop program facility has to have online computers and someone capable of assisting the visitors with their online experience. Tutorials and Train the Trainer manuals are supplied to the program administrator, giving the visitors direct support in the development of their personal Alzheimer’s LifePlan programs.
What Is The Basis of the Program And What Is Required of A Workshop Affiliate? Register Your facility now.
Over two million people have visited the www.endalzheimers.com web site since it opened in 2000 (this site continues as the resource archive and mnagement network of the Community and Clinical suport Services Wrokshop programs). Do a Google search with the keywords "Alzheimer's LifePlan" and you will find the programs in the top 25 results (non-paid placements).

Hundreds of San Francisco Bay Area individuals joined the Alzheimer's LifePlan Focus Groups - from which the standard online and affiliated workshop programs evolved. The focus groups were promoted in the Bay Area Craigslist.org "Events" posting. Individuals were invited to meetings at the Burlingame Recreation Center, on every third Wednesday of each month - 10AM to Noon.
First time visitors fill out a registration form and are led through the 24/7 Workshop One program, or as a group presented - a localized version of the online workshop we have helped the affiliate prepared (this could be a DVD or VHS tape). These programs orient the visitors to the current news and information available about Alzheimer's disease prevention as well as introducing them to several examples of people taking memory fitness tests.
The first workshop is an essential orientation tool. People who understand how to use the online computer's browser can be turned loose to seek new information, take memory fitness tests, or particiapte in online activities. Returning computer literate visitors (who have gone through the 24/7 Workshop) can return to the online activities and check for news and information updates before they take additional memory fitness tests. In larger groups, members usually team up with individuals who don't know how to use the computers - and give assistance in the online navigation or memory fitness test taking.
Forming the original Alzheimer's LifePlan focus groups was a great pleasure, and several of the groups are still meeting. A steady stream of new folks come to the monthly meetings, and all the activity has given us ample feedback for design of literature, individual Alzheimer's Prevention program management, and now the dramatic opportunity of taking this program to those in your neighborhood who might not ever know about Alzheimer's prevention - that could be your workshop program.
The affiliation is free and the programs come direclty off of the Alzheimer's LifePlan web pages. The online community provides you on-going updates for information - and the Workshop Resources page will continually give you articles, forms, videos, and online community activity reports - in addition to promoting your workshops in your local Craigslist.org "Events" area.
Train People In Prevention Register Your facility now.
Like any self-improvement program - it is always easier to start and maintain the program if you have friends and neighbors in it with you. The Alzheimer's LifePlan video programs and the memory fitness tests are all online activity - so you will have to give those attending your workshops access to the content and testing platforms.

What is new and different about the Alzheimer's LifePlan, is the importance it puts on the individual to monitor their diet, exercise (mental and physical) in moderation levels. There is nothing extreme about the Alzheimer's prevention treatments - unless your physical condition is so far out of shape - and then you are a candidate for the number one American killer - heart disease.
In truth, an individual can come to a workshop one time and then continue working their Alzheimer's prevention program with public access online computers, their personal computers, or computers of friends and neighbors.
Assist Those Uncomforable Online Register Your facility now.
Often those at the greatest risk of developing Alzheimer's are not comfortable using computers, much less surfing the Internet and taking interactive online training classes!

You can coach these individuals and get them past their discomfort, maybe even introduce them to the vast array of resources available to them online. At the very least, your workshop could offer them a scheduled event, where they test their memory fitness and develop a baseline Alzheimer's prevention program they can share with their friends, family, and doctors.

You will be amazed at how personal Alzheimer's is to your neighbors. Many of them live in fear of the disease and all of them have confusion about it. The first time you hold a workshop - and have 2-3 people show up, you will begin to make new friends and share intimate personal information - all relating to Alzheimer's.
